Edit content on the canvas
Edit content in Webflow
One of the biggest advantages of content editing in Webflow is that you make updates directly on the canvas. Instead of working in a separate interface, you can see your content in context as you edit it.
Watch this brief video that walks through the core content editing workflows you’ll use most often. As you watch, notice how Webflow visually signals editable content and how changes appear immediately on the page.
Recap: Content editing in Webflow
In Webflow, content editors can safely update site content without affecting layout, styling, or structure.
As a Content editor, you can:
- Edit text, images, and links directly on the canvas
- Update static and CMS-driven content
- Make page-level SEO updates
- Collaborate with teammates using comments
Tip: You can use Webflow’s AI Assistant to help generate or refine copy. Learn more in this help article.
Localization, Analyze, and Optimize
Depending on which add-ons you’ve purchased for your site, you may also see tools like Webflow Localization, Webflow Analyze, or Webflow Optimize in Webflow. If your site is using any of these features, you may also be able to:
- Localization: Edit content across secondary locales to localize your site’s content with Webflow Localization
- Analyze: View site and page analytics and create your own goals with Webflow Analyze
- Optimize: Create and modify optimization variations and experiences with Webflow Optimize
These tools extend content workflows, but still restrict certain actions that are more appropriate for teammates with the designer or marketer role. You can learn more about these tools in dedicated courses on Webflow University.
Saving and publishing your changes
As you edit content on the canvas, your changes are saved automatically. Publishing controls when those changes go live.
Depending on your permissions, you may be able to:
- Publish content updates immediately
- Publish to a staging environment
- Save changes for someone else to publish
If publishing isn’t available to you, Webflow will make that clear, and your updates will remain saved until they’re ready to go live.

Try it out: Edit content on the canvas
Let’s put this into practice using your cloned site. Open a static page in your cloned practice site and try completing the following actions:
- Click into a paragraph or other text on the page and update the copy
- Add a link destination to a button or text on the page
- Replace an image or update its alt text
You can see your content updates reflected immediately on the page, without affecting layout or styling.
Got it down?
Next, we’ll look at coordinating edits with teammates, including how simultaneous editing works, when to leave comments instead of editing, and how to collaborate smoothly in shared workspaces.
