Add, edit, and publish CMS content
The Webflow CMS
The Webflow CMS (Content Management System) allows teams to manage content in one place and display it consistently across the site. When content is updated in the CMS, those changes automatically appear everywhere that content is used.
For Content editors, the CMS makes it easier to keep content accurate, consistent, and up to date — without editing each page individually. For example, updating a headline on a static page changes that one page. Updating a blog post title in the CMS updates that title everywhere the post appears.
- Static content lives directly on a page. When you edit it, the change affects only that page.
- Dynamic content comes from the CMS. When you edit it, the change can affect multiple pages across the site.

CMS permissions & guardrails for Content editors
With the Content editor role, you can safely work with CMS content without changing how it’s designed or structured.
Content editors can:
- Create new CMS items for existing CMS Collections (e.g. adding new blog posts to a blog collection)
- Edit existing CMS items and their fields (e.g. Edit the body text or update the title of a blog post)
- Preview CMS content on the canvas so you can see that in the context of the rest of the site
- Save drafts and publish CMS content (if publishing permissions are enabled)
These actions focus entirely on content — not layout, styling, or structure.
Content editors intentionally cannot:
- Create or modify CMS Collections
- Change CMS field types or settings
- Adjust how CMS content is designed or displayed on pages
These boundaries are intentional to keep the site consistent and stable. Those decisions are reserved for Designers, who set up the CMS structure so Content editors can focus on managing content safely.

Try it out: Create and preview a CMS item
Let’s bring this all together using your cloned site.
- Open the CMS panel and navigate to the Blog Posts collection
- Click ‘Create new blog post’ to create a new item for this collection
- Add content to the required fields
- Preview the item and the canvas
Let’s bring this all together using your cloned site.
Pause and reflect: Where does this content appear across the site? How does previewing help you understand the scope of your changes? When would you publish right away, and when would you review with a teammate first?
Feeling good?
