Parent folder

A parent folder is the top-level directory in a chain of subfolders, containing one or more folders and files beneath it. Organizing pages into parent folders keeps a growing site's structure easy to navigate instead of one long flat list.

Also called a parent directory, it’s the primary or top-level folder in a chain of subfolders. Parent folders organize files hierarchically — from the top-level parent down to the children files within — to make locating and managing related directories easy. Each chain has one parent folder in its hierarchy, and deleting the parent folder erases all the subfolders and files inside it.

For example, a folder named "Albums” might contain subfolders titled "2023," "2022," and "2021." "Albums" is the parent folder, while those representing specific years are subfolders, or children folders.
