What’s behind Webflow
Webflow allows you to build websites visually, while it automatically generates the code (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) for you. However, understanding core principles like the box model, HTML structure, CSS styling, and JavaScript interactions helps you make decisions when designing your site.

Start learning Webflow
First, check out the Made in Webflow Marketplace for inspiration and cloneable sites. Second, start with a plan, wireframe, or mockup. Third, start from a template from the template Marketplace or explore the library of pre-made layouts. Fourth, get familiar with the Box Model and how basic web languages work. Lastly, dive in and start building!

Practice activity: Clone a site
It’s time to put your knowledge into action! Practicing what you’ve learned is the best way to reinforce your skills, build confidence, and understand how Webflow works.
In this activity, you’ll clone an inspirational website built by a member of the Webflow community in your personal Dashboard so that you have a complete site to explore.
Instructions
1. Browse cloneable sites - Visit Made in Webflow and toggle the Cloneable sites only switch on.
2. Choose a site - Hover over an inspirational site and click View details. Next, click the Clone in Webflow button in the upper right corner of the modal.

3. Choose a Workspace - From the dropdown in the upper right corner of your Dashboard, select in which Workspace you’d like to clone the site. Next, click the Create site button.

4. Create & explore your site - Follow prompts to Name your site and click Create. Changes to the cloned site in your Workspace won’t impact the original site, so feel free to make it your own!
If you need to free up space in your plan, you can archive a site after you are finished working with it.
Keep going
Feeling confident? Here’s what you can do next:
- Keep exploring - Take a look at your cloned site’s Pages and Navigator panels to see how the site and elements are organized.
- Edit and customize - Click on individual page elements and try changing content or adjusting properties in the Style panel.
