Formality

Formality describes how formal or casual a piece of writing sounds, and it's a setting some languages need spelled out explicitly during translation. Languages like German, French, and Japanese mark formal and informal register through different verb forms, pronouns, or honorifics, while English doesn't encode that distinction at all, so a translation tool has nothing to infer it from without an explicit setting.

Webflow's Localization settings let Advanced Localize and Enterprise customers set formality per target language, independent of tone and independent of locale, so translations into the same language can still differ in register from page to page. A preview lets you test the setting against sample text before it applies to your site's content.
