You've learned how skills and rules work, seen how to create and manage them in Webflow, and watched an agent put them to use. Now it's time to create one for your own site.

Use this lesson as a final checklist, then try the guided activity when you're ready.

Before, during, and after using Agent Instructions

Before you start

• Make sure you have at least one rule that applies across sessions, such as brand voice, class naming, or accessibility standards.
• If your site already has components and variables, reference them directly instead of describing them in text.
• Not sure what to write? Ask your agent to inspect the relevant parts of the site and help draft a starting point.

While you're working

• At the start of a relevant session, ask the agent to read your Agent Instructions: "Before we start, please read my Agent Instructions for this site."
• When the agent makes a choice you wouldn't have made, treat it as feedback. If it keeps happening, add or refine an instruction.
• Make those updates while the context is still fresh.

After a build or project handoff

• Export your instructions as a ZIP file and include them in the client handoff. A site with Agent Instructions is an agent-ready site.
• Managing several sites for the same client? Consider moving shared guidance into a Shared Library.
• Update your instructions when your design system, content structure, or brand standards change. Stale guidance can mislead an agent just like outdated documentation can mislead a new teammate.

Your practice activity

The Webflow University: Write a strong Agent Instruction skill gives you a guided, personalized way to create your first instruction for your own site.

The agent reads your site, recommends what to include, and walks you through reviewing and saving a real skill or rule based on your components, content, and standards, rather than a generic template.

How to install it

The process for installing and running skills varies by agent. If you're using Claude:

1. Open Claude and go to Customize → Skills → Add
2. Upload the .md file you downloaded from this course
3. Open a new Claude chat and type a forward slash (/)
4. Select wfu-agent-instructions to run the skill

This skill is demoed in Claude. It works with other agents that support markdown-based instructions and a Webflow MCP connection. Setup and experience may vary by tool.

You can keep the skill for future Agent Instructions work or share it with teammates who want to draft instructions for their own sites.

What you can create

• A design system skill grounded in your actual components and variables
• A brand voice skill for a specific type of content
• A class naming, SEO, or accessibility rule
• An instruction for another workflow or standard specific to your site

The activity takes about 15 to 30 minutes. Because the activity happens in the separate Agent Instructions panel, it won't affect your live site. Still, you can use a clone or test site if that feels more comfortable.

This skill uses your agent's Webflow MCP connection to inspect site information and help create Agent Instructions. Its use may count toward your agent plan's limits, so check your usage before running longer workflows.
