Alt text for images in Webflow is the descriptive text you add to an image element to communicate its content to screen readers and search engines. It's a critical accessibility requirement and also contributes to SEO.

To add alt text in Webflow, select an image element on the canvas and look in the Element Settings panel (the gear icon). There you'll find the alt text field. Write a concise, descriptive phrase that conveys what the image shows — not just "image" or "photo," but something like "Team members collaborating around a whiteboard."

For decorative images that don't convey meaningful content, you can leave the alt text field empty or use an empty string. Screen readers will skip images with empty alt text, which is the appropriate behavior for purely decorative elements.

The Audit panel in Webflow flags images that are missing alt text, making it easy to find and fix them before publishing. Running the Audit panel before launch is a good habit to make sure all meaningful images have appropriate descriptions.
