What is the Webflow CMS?

The Webflow CMS (Content Management System) helps you scale and manage content on your site — from blog posts and testimonials to portfolios and customer stories. Instead of creating and updating each piece of content manually, the CMS stores your content in a structured way, making it easy to reuse and update content across your site.

Static vs. dynamic content

Before we dive deeper, let’s look at the difference between static and dynamic content — a core concept in understanding when and why to use the Webflow CMS.

Side-by-side comparison of static content labeled “Homepage” and dynamic content with three blog post examples.

Static content

Static content is added and edited manually on a specific page. It’s best used when:

  • The content is unique and won’t be reused across other pages
  • You don’t need a consistent template or shared structure
  • The content doesn’t change frequently

Common examples include 404 pages, site homepages, or one-off campaign landing pages.

Dynamic CMS content

Dynamic content is connected to data in the Webflow CMS. It’s best used when:

  • The content follows a repeatable structure
  • It’s reused across different pages or components
  • It changes often or needs to scale over time

Using the CMS means you can design once and apply that design across many items, with updates managed from a single source of truth.

Key benefits of using the CMS

Whether you’re just getting started or scaling a content-rich site, the Webflow CMS gives you the flexibility and efficiency to do more with less effort.

  • Centralized content management: Store and edit content in one place
  • Reusable layouts: Create a design once and reuse it for every item in a Collection
  • Real-time updates: Changes in the CMS reflect instantly across your site
  • Flexible field types: Include text, images, links, colors, and more — all tied to custom fields you define
  • Collaborative editing: Empower content editors and marketers to manage content without needing design permissions
  • Advanced control: Use filtering, sorting, scheduling, and Webflow’s APIs to manage content at scale
