Intro to the Legacy Editor

The Webflow Legacy Editor is on its way out, with content editing now happening directly on the canvas. To learn more about the transition away from the Legacy Editor, check out this blog post announcement. This video is designed for teams who are still using the Legacy Editor during the transition period.

Still using the Webflow Legacy Editor? This video helps you get up to speed while it’s being phased out.

The Legacy Editor is Webflow's original content editing interface — designed for clients and content managers who need to update text and images without accessing the full Designer. In this intro, we'll give you a quick overview of what it is and when you'd use it.

The Legacy Editor is a separate mode from the Designer. When you or a client opens the Editor, they see the live site with a simplified toolbar for making content edits — things like updating copy, swapping images, or editing CMS items. It's designed to be approachable for non-technical users.

You access the Editor from your site's dashboard or by adding /editor to the end of your published site URL. Editors — the user role — can only access the Editor, not the Designer, which keeps your design safe from accidental changes.

It's worth noting that Webflow has introduced newer collaboration tools, and the Legacy Editor remains available for sites that use it. If you're starting a new project, it's worth checking the Webflow documentation to understand the current recommended approach for client content editing.

That's a quick introduction to the Legacy Editor in Webflow.
