We’re transitioning to a new UI, and are in the process of updating our Webflow University content.

In this lesson:

  1. Integrate Google Analytics
  2. Add the query parameter
  3. Analyze your analytics

Integrating Webflow site search with Google Analytics is a great way to learn more about what your visitors are looking for on your site, as well as how many people are using search in the first place. Some of the key data you can learn from site search analytics includes:

  • Most commonly searched terms
  • Percentage of sessions with search
  • Bounce rate from search results

For general information on integrating your Webflow site with Google Analytics, check out the Google Analytics guide.

Integrate Google Analytics

Before you can get analytics on how visitors are using site search, make sure you’ve set up Google Analytics. For more details on this setup step, head to the Google Analytics guide.

Add the query parameter

Google provides complete instructions in their support article on setting up site search analytics, but in short, you’ll need to take two steps:

  1. Turn “Site search Tracking” ON in the admin settings for your site
  2. Add “search, query” to the Query parameter field
This is how your site search setup should look in Google Analytics.

Analyze your analytics

Site search analytics live under the “Behavior” section of your Google Analytics dashboard. Some of the most helpful pieces of information to look into include:

  • Most common search terms
  • Percentage of sessions with search
  • Total search volume
  • Most frequently searched from pages
Site search analytics provide a rare glimpse at exactly what your site visitors are interested in learning about.
